Our Home On The Web

Tony & Cathy

We’ve saved all of our trip photos as windows media slideshows; the files are a bit large, but they’re a fraction of the size that the individual photos would have been, and they make it fast and easy to view all of our photos.   Some of our more recent trips also include some short movie files.  To download a slideshow or a movie file, RIGHT click on the link and choose “Save As” and save it to your pc.

If you see a photo in a slideshow that you would like a copy of, please let us know - indicate which trip it was and describe the photo and we’ll send a copy to you.

We’re just starting the process of converting all of our photos into slideshows, so please check back often!  We’ll try to always display the most recent trip at the top of the page.  Enjoy!  (and turn your speakers on; the slideshows have either music or narration).

Video Format: All of our slideshows are in .wmv (Windows Media Player) format.  Our small video clips are in .mov (Quicktime) format.  Unfortunately our camera only saves videos in .mov format and we have yet to find a good converting program, so for now we’re stuck with multiple formats.  Click HERE to go to the Quicktime downloads page for the free player if your pc cannot already play .mov files.

NOTE: Please refresh your browser window every time you return to this page to ensure you’re seeing the most recent content!

In June of 2009, we flew from Victoria to Vancouver to Anchorage, and then cruised back aboard the Carnival Spirit.  We had stops in Sitka, Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan.  The weather was the best Alaska had seen in years, +20 and sunny!  We were lying in the sun on deck in ALASKA drinking fruity drinks when it was snowing in Calgary!  We had a great time, did lots of interesting shore excursions including kayaking, biking, and hiking up to a glacier!  We rode the White Pass Railway, saw bald eagles, bears and whales.

In August of 2007, we flew from Edmonton to Halifax and rented a car.  We  spent two days there (sailboat tour of the harbour, Maritime Museum, Alexander Keith’s factory), drove to PEI for 3 nights (Charlottetown for 1, then 2 on the north coast biking and kayaking).  Then we drove through Fredericton (New Brunswick) where Cathy spent a few years as a kid (visited old houses and schools) then off to Quebec City.  Stayed in the old town (only walled city left in North America), had a great time.  Then we drove to Montreal, returned the car and met up with a Zephyr Adventures rollerblading tour of Montreal and the surrounding area (Laurentians, etc).  Skating was amazing, 220 km in 5 days, including skating the Montreal Grand Prix racetrack.  The path quality was fantastic everywhere we went, straight and flat.  We improved our longest skate day record to 66 km!   We rented bikes on our last day in Montreal before flying home and biked 30 km along the water.

The Gulf Islands are a beautiful set of islands off the west coast of Canada, just west of Vancouver (on the mainland).  The big island is Vancouver Island with cities like Victoria and Nanaimo; Victoria has the mildest climate in Canada, snow is rare and when it appears its gone the next day.  There are many smaller islands (Pender, Salt Spring etc) with breathtaking scenery, B&B’s etc.  We were visiting so much we finally decided to MOVE there!  This slideshow is an amalgamation of 4 trips to the area before we moved.

Feeling the desperate need to escape the cold, we booked a last minute trip south from Dec 26 2006 to Jan 1 2007.  We flew from Calgary to Salt Lake City, and rented a car.  Drove from the airport to the Paris Las Vegas hotel for a night of gambling, then drove to San Diego where we stayed at a great hotel (The Dana on Mission Bay); we visited Seaworld, Old Town, Coronado Island, and took a boat cruise in the harbour.  After 3 nights in San Diego, we drove to Phoenix to see the Coyotes beat the Sharks 8-0.  Then it was back to Salt Lake City for the flight back to Calgary and the drive home.

In April, 2006 we drove to Reno for some quick gambling, then to California wine country where we went hot air ballooning.  After the ballooning we went on a bike tour through wine country with Zephyr Adventures.  The tour was fabulous, lots of long, challenging bike routes and lots of wine tastings at Napa and Sonoma Valley wineries.  After the tour we drove to San Jose to see a Sharks-Predators playoff game, then headed back home.  On the way home, we stopped and did a bit of biking in Oregon.

In 2005, we flew to Europe and combined two holidays.  We went on a Zephyr rollerblading tour through the Swiss Alps which was absolutely amazing, one of our favorite trips ever.  We flew into Zurich, got a quick intro to the city on a boat tour and trolley tour.  The next day we took a train to Brig to meet up with the group.  The skating was mostly flat, weaving through valleys and small towns in the Alps.  After the tour, we took an overnight train to Vienna and met up with our next group, doing a bus tour (Insight Vacations) that included Vienna, Budapest (Hungary), Bratislava (Slovakia), and Prague (Czech Republic).  Although it was a bit of a departure from our active holidays, we still saw some amazing sights, and even went to an opera (Madame Butterfly) in a 500 year old opera house in Prague (sung in Italian with Czech subtitles. . . :)

In 2004, we flew to Martha’s Vineyard / Nantucket via Boston to do a rollerblading trip with Zephyr Adventures.  After the skate trip, we flew back to Boston and took in a baseball game at Fenway!  Then we rented a car and drove to the coast of Maine for a weekend bike trip with Summer Feet bike tours.  After the bike tour, we drove to Philadelphia for a quick visit that included a Monday night football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings.  From there, we drove to Washington to see the sites and visit the Air & Space museum at the Smithsonian Institute.  From there we went to New York City for a couple of nights, then back to Boston for a beer at Cheers and then it was back home.

We celebrated our 10th anniversary in 2003 by going to France to take part in a Zephyr Adventures multi sport tour in the wine country,  and spent some time before the tour in Dijon and after the tour in Paris.  In addition to the usual Paris sightseeing, we also took part in the Paris Friday Night skate; every Friday, thousands of people skate 30 km through Paris from 10 pm to 1 am.  It’s a pretty exhilarating experience, if you ever have the chance we highly recommend it!

We got married on the Woodwind (trimaran sailboat) on Lake Tahoe.  We rented a van and drove down with our parents, staying in Jackpot and Reno (Nevada) for a few days then Caesars in Tahoe.
